Sulfuric Hot Spring Of Masara

There is no shortage of things to do around let me tell you.  From a cold weather training of yesterday’s activity, I’m bagging myself of making a COLD WEATHER DAYBREAK!

 

Been thinking of a not so cozy experience in the great outdoors, and so I think of hot spring, and I think of Sulfur  and headed off to Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring in Brgy. Mainit, Masara, Maco, Compostela Valley.

Traveling for a little over 2 hours isn’t so tiring at all – watching the scenic views in the secluded area of Maco entertains you for a grand scenery to find yourself immersed in the comforting warmth of this  magical hot spring.

Sworn by the locals to offer healing benefits, these natural baths have been used to relieve skin rashes and joint pain. According to Google, water from this spring appears either yellow-brownish or milky and its minerals in the water have positive therapeutic effects on skin disease, women's diseases, asthma, neuralgia, arteriosclerosis, rheumatism and shoulder, neck and wrist pains; they also have a detoxifying and mucolytic effect.  Approximately 0.25 percent of your total body weight is sulfur.

This secluded Sulfur Hot Spring could be renamed as ‘hot falls heaven’ with thermal springs popping up from its nature. Sure mid-aged citizens would love to get bathed in an uncommercialized natural hot spring that they would be bragging its heated waters to others.

To get there:

1. From Ecoland terminal, ride a bus with route going to Tagum , approximately an hour travel with P65.00 fare for non-air bus.

2. Look/ ask for jeepney terminal with route to Masara. From there, you need to pay P60.00 and sit for more than an hour or 2 to reach Brgy. Mainit (ask the driver/conductor where to drop you off).

3. Trek for 2 to 3 minutes and take a pride for getting into the place!

Post note: Sometimes when too many people are coming, it ruined the natural beauty and serenity of  a place. That's why people often keep it a secret:))

The Hidden Beauty of Awao Falls

September 14, 2013.  Surely our 4-hour travel paid-off when we witnessed fresh water running and pouring down the Awao Falls nested in secluded area of Brgy. Awao,  Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province.

Its huge rocky figure made it stand still in spite of the typhoon which blast-off most provinces of Comval on the previous year.

This falls sounds new to those who never heard of it, even most of their locals haven't gone in the tourist spot they have.

Greatest thing here was its purity- all surrounded with trees, pebbles and rocks. It doesn't have a huge pool  but you'll meet an instant massage in its flashy water pouring closer into you.

From Davao City Ecoland bus terminal,Awao falls can be reached through bus bound to Tandag or Butuan, it all stops at Monkayo terminal with 3-hour travel (P170.00)

From Monkayo terminal, you can ask direction from a local to skylab terminal with route to San Jose and Awao.

In Awao terminal,  ask for drivers who can be your driver/tourist guide. You can charter the ride for 500-600. You'll be spending another hour in a real bumpy ride and an additional 20 minutes trekking, with more or less 650-700 steps going down to a sloppy way.

I remember on our way to our last  hour travel using skylab as the mode of transpo,  we've witnessed the traces left by typhoon Pablo in the area and how residents fought just to live normally.

Inspite of what had happened,  these people never forget to smile.

Right after the tiring journey,  you'll come to witness the virginity of the falls and take a pride of being one of the few who visited it.
